To establish a production pattern for sustainable agriculture
We, ETO INNOVATION, will conduct food processing, production and sales by utilizing agricultural products that are out of spec, scrapped, or excesses. The re-purposing of food resources, which have previously been discarded by farms and offices, into new products will help revitalize agriculture in communities. We also believe that this initiative will promote the increase and retention of new members and in turn create more employment and promote U/I turns*, eventually contributing to the revitalization of society and communities.
*U/I turn refers to the movement of people across the country.
“U turn” = an individual returning to their hometown after spending time in the city.
“I turn” = an individual who was born in the city moving to other regions.

Planning and development of dried fruit products
For products that are additive-free, healthy and environmentally conscious
These products have no additives and are environmentally friendly. With no preservatives or artificial coloring, consumers can enjoy the natural flavor of the crops safely and healthily. The crops we use are out-of-pec products that were going to be scrapped despite the taste being no different than normal ones. Through cooperation with the farmers, we aim to reduce the methane gas produced by the scrapping process of these out-of-spec products, as well as the 3.6 billion tons of CO2 emitted in the process of incinerating combustible waste, i.e. food waste, worldwide.

Decompression Dry Technology

Ensuring sustainable production processes with the environmentally conscious decompression dry machine
We adopted decompression dry method, a method with less environmental burdens and higher safety level than the existing methods such as hot-air drying technology. This method also ensures the preservation of the crop’s best flavors. We also aim to contribute to the establishment of sustainable production processes by providing services of manufacturing, sales and installment of the decompression dry machines.

Features of Decompression dry machines
Zero CO2 emissions + energy saving
No emission of any CO2 during operation. The drying is done by utilizing the heat created from decompression process and from the motors of circulation fan and other parts. The high spec heat exchange system enables an efficient heat exchange between inside and outside of the machine, allowing the drying process to be carried out in a short period of time, saving its energy consumption as a result.
High evaporation rate by decompression
The air pressure, temperature and humidity are carefully controlled. Decompression accelerates the evaporation rate, allowing a fast drying process at a low temperature without affecting the quality of the products.
Delivering the natural flavor of the crops
As the drying temperature is low, less stress is exerted on the crops. This allows the quality (flavor, aroma, nutrition, colors, tissues) to be preserved. The drying is done evenly so there’s less cracks and deformation, making the technology highly suitable for dried products, which typically require high precision in processing.
High level safety and easy operation
The machine uses an electronic heater as its heat source. The installation is easy, and the automated control makes operation and maintenance of the machine simple, too.

ACTION

Reduction of food loss and food waste
We, ETO INNOVATION, utilize “out-of-spec agricultural products” and “food loss produced in the supply chain” to conduct food processing. By using the Decompression Dry machine, the processing can be done at a low cost with minimal impact on the environment. Further benefits of dried food products towards managing food waste is the near zero-waste consumption. By going through the drying process, 1) crops can be stored for a longer period of time, minimizing the amount of waste from rotten food, and 2) all parts of the crops including the peel can be eaten, minimizing the amount of waste produced.

Food donation and support for developing countries
We are witnessing a global “food inequality” where in developed countries food distribution surpasses consumption and excesses are discarded, while developing countries are experiencing food shortages from poverty, climate change, conflicts and logistical difficulties. ETO INNOVATION plans to donate our products such as dried fruits to developing countries by cooperating with the Nobel Foundation, Bill Gates Foundation and the United Nations, contributing to eventually solving poverty and famine related issues.

By having the local residents process, manufacture and sell the agricultural goods, we can promote local production for local consumption as well as increase in U/I turn. We will also provide student internship programs as learning opportunities for local students to understand the role they play as a part of the community. ETO INNOVATION’s Decompression Dry machine does not emit CO2. What enables this is the use of an electronic heater as the machine’s heat source. The machine also has an insulated body designed to improve the thermal cycling efficiency, which in turn reduces energy consumption. In addition, dried food products are light, compact, and can be stored at a normal temperature. This enables further reduction of energy used at the transportation and storage stage.
